Hi everyone, I was just thinking about today’s topic so i
thought let’s talk about something big, yes something really big. I want to tell
that this thing is actually so much big that it is the largest of it’s own
kind.
Today we are going to talk about ‘’BURJ KHALIFA’’. The Burj
Khalifa known as the Burj Dubai before it’s inauguration in 2010. It’s height
is 829.8 m, and a roof height of 828 m.
Construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004, it was
completed five years later in 2009. The building was opened in 2010 as part of
new development called Downtown Dubai. It is a centrepiece of mixed use development.
It was a decision of their government to make this building for Dubai to gain
international recognition, there are many such extra ordinary building’s like
Burj Al Arab and e.t.c., but this is the most famous out of them. The building
was originally named Burj Dubai but was renamed in honour of the ruler of Abu
Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyam. This
building broke numerous height records and designated as the tallest building
in the world.
It was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and
Merrill. This design is derived from the Islamic architecture of the region,
such as in the Great Mosque of Samarra. The Y-shaped tripartite floor geometry
is designed to optimize residential and hotel space. Critical reception to Burj
Kalifa has been generally positive, and the building has received many awards
also.
