VENICE- THE CITY OF WATER

“THE WORLD IS A BOOK AND THOSE WHO DO    NOT TRAVEL READ ONLY ONE PAGE.”

Are you a gallivanter like me, but there is a difference between me and a gallivanter  is that i also love travelling but is able to go very less places, but that’s not our today’s topic. Our today’s topic is about one of my travelling destination which if i ever got a chance i will not leave that, and that place is VENICE, ITALY. It’s a city in Italy which is also knows as or famous as “City of Water.” This city is actually situated on a group of 118 small islands, that are separated by canals and linked by bridges, There are 400 bridges that link 118 small islands with each other, because it’s all linked with bridges so it’s another name is “City of Bridges.”
Today i will tell you some unknown facts about the City of Water Venice-

1.   IT IS NOT AN ISLAND PARADISE-
It is more like an archipelago paradise, it’s actually linked with 118 small islands, not all of the islands are natural some are built by human hands. For example- Sacca Fisola, it was built bu human hands in the sixties, by adding landfill to a patch of saltmarsh adjacent to Giudecca. It is largely residential.

2.   HIGH TIDE IS HIGHER THAN YOU THINK-
As this city is on water, it also face some problems like low tides and high tides. The highest recorded tide was on November 4,1966, and that tide was 194 cm above the sea.

3.   IT IS AN ANCIENT REFUGEE-
The precise moments of Venice’s birth are as lost in murkiness as an engagement ring dropped by shaky hand into the grand canal. But the city was probably found in Roman era. Venice has at least a millennium and a half of history under its belt. Enough for to have become a reality.

4.  THE CITY CAN BE VERY NARROW IN IT’S OUTLOOK-
Calletta varisco, a street in the Cannaregio district that is just 53 cm wide in parts. It is the narrowest street in the city.

5.   IT HAS A LITTLE COUSIN-
Venice is not a lone example of a floating city. It is not even a lone example in the Venetian Lagoon. It is accompanied by Chioggia, which sits 16 miles to the south. This city has canal of it’s own, including canale vena.
